Farmers are encouraged to attend the Cover Crop Field Day

Farmers are encouraged to attend a Cover Crop Field Day on Wednesday, March 13. The event will be held at the Junior Upton Farm located at 16130 County Road 1800 N in Springerton, IL. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

The Cover Crop Field Day will feature a tour of various cover crop field trials, with details on the latest cover crop research from John Pike, CCA with Pike Ag, LLC. The plot will feature multiple trials of various cover crop species as well as a soil pit analysis. 

During lunch, Illinois Farm Bureau Director of Natural and Environmental Resources Lauren Lurkins will discuss the organization’s latest efforts to meet the goals of the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy. Also, during lunch, attendees will witness a rainfall simulator, demonstrating the impact rainfall has on nutrient loss from your field. Following lunch, there will be a panel discussion featuring local farmer and cover crop expert Dr. D. Wayne Roser, Junior Upton, John Pike, and Dr. Lloyd Murdock, retired soil scientist from the University of Kentucky.
