Antique tractor owners and admirers from around southeastern Illinois showcased their collections on Labor Day during the 3rd Annual Wayne County Antique Tractor Drive.
24 tractors participated in the trek this year, which started at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Fairfield.  The route went west on the Mt. Vernon road and headed north on the Sims road.  After a brief break at Berry School, tractors arrived at White Farms, west of Geff.
On display at White Farms were 30 fully restored antique tractors from the Carroll White Collection.  Following a lunch catered by Matt Kinney of Bare Bones BBQ, David White presented awards for this year’s event.
The Earl Smith Memorial Oldest Driver award was presented to 83 year old Clifford Pierce of Clay City.
The Youngest Driver Award was presented to 17 year old Travis Hughes of Cisne.
The Oldest Tractor Award was given to Clarence Cooper of Cisne who drove a 1940 International Harvester B.
The last award was for the participant who drove the furthest to the event.   Jackie Knackmus of West Salem received the award, driving 35 miles to participate in this year’s tractor drive.
Each award winner received a 1/16 scale antique tractor.  Each driver in the event also received an 8x10 photo of their tractor.
The Wayne County Farm Bureau would like to thank 4-R Equipment, Albion Equipment, Herschel Johnson Implement, LeMond’s Carter Limited, and McLean Implement for sponsoring this year's drive.  Another huge thank you goes to the Fairfield Police Department for their assistance in navigating stoplights on Main Street in Fairfield, as well as to David White and his family for hosting the event this year on their farm.  Finally, the Farm Bureau would like to thank all of the volunteers, staff, and their families for assisting with this year’s Wayne County Tractor Drive.
Proceeds from the event will support the Wayne County Ag in the Classroom program.
